At this year's Geneva Auto Show, Kia really wanted to make a statement. The automaker did exactly that by unveiling its boldly designed hybrid sport hatchback, the Provo Concept. This aggressively styled model is unlike anything we have ever seen, and most certainly demonstrated the level of creativity that the automaker is capable of.
Starting with the unique exterior, the Provo Concept has bright orange highlights, sleek bodylines, frame-less windows and a visor-like windshield. To accompany its style, the efficient drivetrain adds to its appeal. A turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that churns out 201 horsepower is coupled with a 44 horsepower electric motor. This allows for it to go into electric-only mode and have simulated all-wheel drive.
When taking a peek inside, you are greeted with modernized accents that include a carbon fiber dashboard complete with analog gauges and a small digital display, along with toggle switch controls and column-mounted paddle shifters. It seems as though Kia didn't leave out any details with this model.
Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer at the brand's European styling base in Frankfurt, describes the Provo Concept as "an emotional and muscular car aimed at delivering pure fun and performance for today's city-based enthusiast driver who longs for the curves of the open road."1 We know we would most certainly love to try this hatchback out on the roads in the greater Reno area.
Although Kia says it has no plans to send this model into production, we hope that some of its modernized styling will perhaps inspire future designs for the new Kia lineup.
