Automakers are always trying to develop new models that have desirable youthful appeal, and in the past, Japanese brands were ahead of the game when it came to drawing in a younger audience. However, a new study completed by R.L. Polk  and Company  and reported by USA Today, is showing that people between the ages of 18 and 34 are now turning to Korean brands like Kia for a vehicle that is reliable, stylish and affordable.

The recent study uncovered that when looking at drivers last year within the age range of 18 to 24, only 42.6 percent of them registered a new vehicle from a Japanese brand. This is a 9.8 percent drop from the statistics measured four years prior. In 2008, only 5.8 percent of youth were driving Kia or Hyundai models, however in 2012 this number jumped to 12.6 percent. Clearly new Kia models are making quite the impression on our younger drivers.

By looking at the age range of buyers from 25 to 34, this trend was strikingly similar over the four year span of time. About 4.9 percent of drivers were sporting a Korean brand in 2008, which then more than doubled in 2012 to 10.1 percent. With new stylish, affordable models like the Kia Forte, Kia Rio or Kia Soul in the lineup, we can't say we are too surprised by the shift that is occurring.
